Did you know that the Grilled Cheese has been around since the 1920’s??
In 1914 JL Kraft (aka Kraft foods) opened their first plant in Illinois making an affordable cheese option to the more expensive English Cheddars.
Shortly after that Otto Frederick Rohwedder invented an affordable bread slicer and with that marriage you had cheese and bread!
In the 40’s and 50’s this combination was widely used during WWII by navy cooks with grated cheese (which we still use at Mountain Melt) and then in 1949 the Kraft single was invented making the Grilled Cheese mainstream.
